How long and frequent are sessions?

Individual sessions are usually 50 minutes, and generally once per week. Couples sessions are 80 minutes, and also generally once per week. When heading towards termination of therapy it can sometimes be useful to taper off to biweekly sessions.  While actively working on issues weekly sessions are important, and I have found it to be ineffective to move to biweekly sessions until the presenting problem is under control.

How many sessions will I need?

How long each person will need to work through their presenting issues depends on a number of factors including the issue itself, their current coping strategies, their ability and willingness to do work outside of session, and how entrenched the issue has become for them. Some problems can be tackled in as little as a couple of months, others take significantly longer. It's important to remember that changing long held behavioral and thought patterns is not an easy process, and progress is individualized and sometimes unpredictable.

Do you accept my insurance?

I am in network with Cigna, and will bill Cigna directly.  I can provide a superbill for you to access your out of network benefits for other PPO insurance plans.  When confirming your insurance benefits for out of network it's helpful to ask the following questions:

  • Do I have an out of network mental health benefit?
  • How many sessions are covered per year?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • Do I need a referral or approval from my primary care physician?
  • What is the process for filing my own insurance claims?
